Kenya Safari — Masai Mara, Great Migration & Big Five Wildlife Tours

Kenya is the safari that started it all — the land of wide-open savannah, red-earth plains, and the single most famous wildlife spectacle on the planet: the Great Wildebeest Migration. From the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve to the elephant herds of Amboseli framed against Mount Kilimanjaro, Kenya offers a classic East African safari experience unlike anywhere else. Add the flamingo-lined shores of Lake Nakuru, the rugged wilderness of Samburu, and some of Africa's finest safari lodges and camps, and it's easy to see why Kenya remains the continent's most iconic wildlife destination.

Dubu Adventures designs expert-guided Kenya safari packages for travellers from the US, UK, Europe, and Australia — combining seamless logistics, hand-selected accommodation, and specialist knowledge of Kenya's finest game parks and reserves.

Kenya's Premier Safari Experiences

The Great Wildebeest Migration — Masai Mara National Reserve. The single most spectacular wildlife event on earth, and the reason many travellers choose a Kenya safari above all others. Between July and October, over a million wildebeest, alongside hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle, pour across the Mara River in dramatic, predator-filled crossings. Even outside migration season, the Mara's resident lion, leopard, and cheetah populations make it one of Africa's finest year-round game-viewing destinations.

Peak migration season (August–September) is Kenya's busiest and most sought-after travel period. Dubu Adventures recommends booking Masai Mara camps and lodges well in advance to secure the best migration viewing.

Elephant Herds & Kilimanjaro Views — Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is famous for its large, free-roaming elephant herds and unbeatable views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising just across the Tanzanian border. Few sights in Africa compare to a herd of elephants moving across the plains with Africa's tallest peak as a backdrop.

Flamingos & Rhino Sanctuary — Lake Nakuru National Park. Set within the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is renowned for its shimmering flocks of flamingos and as one of Kenya's most successful rhino sanctuaries, protecting both black and white rhino populations alongside Rothschild's giraffe and healthy predator numbers.

Samburu National Reserve. North of the equator, Samburu's arid, rugged landscape is home to species found nowhere else in Kenya's southern parks — the "Samburu Special Five": Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and beisa oryx — set along the life-giving Ewaso Ng'iro River.

Mara River Crossings & Hot Air Balloon Safaris. Beyond the Migration itself, the Masai Mara offers unforgettable hot air balloon safaris drifting silently over the savannah at sunrise, followed by a champagne breakfast on the plains — one of the most romantic and memorable ways to experience Kenya's wilderness.

Best Time To Visit Kenya

Kenya is a rewarding safari destination year-round, but timing depends on what you most want to see. The dry season from July to October is peak season and the best time to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, with dramatic Mara River crossings and excellent game viewing across all parks. Kenya's short dry season in January and February also offers superb wildlife viewing with fewer crowds. The "long rains" fall from March to May and the "short rains" from October to December, bringing lush green landscapes, lower rates, and wonderful birdlife, though some roads can turn muddy.

Kenya Safari Questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Kenya Safari

Everything you need to know before booking your safari.

When is the best time to see the wildebeest migration in Kenya?

The Great Wildebeest Migration arrives in Kenya's Masai Mara from around July and remains through October, with the dramatic Mara River crossings typically peaking in August and September. Because timing shifts slightly each year with the rains, we track the herds' movement closely and recommend booking your Masai Mara safari well in advance for the best chance of witnessing a crossing.

How much does a Kenya safari cost?

Costs vary depending on the parks visited, season, and level of accommodation, from comfortable mid-range lodges to exclusive luxury camps. Peak migration season (July–October) commands the highest rates, while the green seasons offer better value. We tailor every itinerary and quote to your budget and travel dates.

Can I combine Kenya and Tanzania on one trip?

Yes — Kenya and Tanzania share the same Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, and many of our travellers combine a Masai Mara safari with the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, or a Kilimanjaro climb. Flights between Nairobi and Kilimanjaro or Arusha connect well, and we handle the full logistics of a combined itinerary.

What wildlife can I expect to see in Kenya?

Beyond the wildebeest migration, Kenya's parks hold all of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino — alongside cheetah, giraffe, hippo, and prolific birdlife. The Masai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, and Samburu each offer a distinct wildlife experience within a relatively compact and easy-to-navigate safari circuit.

How do I get to Tanzania?

Most travellers fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. If you're combining a trip with Kenya, there are regular connecting flights between Nairobi and both airports, and we arrange all transfers as part of your itinerary.

Is Tanzania safe for tourists?

Yes. Tanzania is one of Africa's most visited and stable safari destinations, with a well-established tourism industry. As with any trip, we recommend standard travel precautions, and our guides and drivers are with you throughout, so you're never navigating logistics alone.

Can I combine a luxury safari with a Kilimanjaro climb?

Absolutely — this is one of our most popular combinations. Many travellers climb Kilimanjaro first, then unwind with a few days of luxury safari in the Masai Mara, Serengeti, or Ngorongoro Crater afterward. We can design the full trip, including recovery time built in between the two.
